ASCB Retreat on US CMS Tier2 Centers

June 24-25, 2004

Dear US CMS Colleagues,

The US CMS Advisory Software and Computing Board (ASCB) is inviting you to the "ASCB Retreat on US CMS Tier-2 Centers", a two-day meeting on June 24 and 25, hosted by Caltech. The meeting serves as an extended meeting of the board, open to the whole collaboration, as decided in the last ASCB meeting.

The goal of the meeting is to help define the scope and goals for the US CMS Tier-2 work plan, and to set the expectations and requirements for CMS Tier-2 centers in the US. The result of the meeting will be a document advising the US CMS Software and Computing project manager on starting the Tier-2 program for US CMS, and will be input in the bidding procedure for selecting the US CMS Tier-2 sites. Please note that this meeting is *not* to do the selection of the Tier-2 sites! It is however meant to develop a sense within the collaboration of the roles and expected use of Tier-2 centers for CMS physics, and the expectations of the collaboration on the Tier-2 sites.

In addition to the elected and ex-officio ASCB members we are looking for a broad participation from the collaboration to get good input into the process. We will get input from the current pilot Tier-2 centers, from Grid experience, and will have time to discuss.
