Scope of the LHC Computing Challenge
- Scale:
- Pre-compressed data in the PetaBytes range
- Continuous transport
- Constant transport/recompute decisions
- Transparent access:
- Local, at CERN, or elsewhere
- Memory, disk, tape or other tertiary storage
- Distribution:
- Object database necessary for scientific, technical, financial and sociological reasons
- Duration of the experiments:
- 15-20 years.
- Many developers, many users.
- Constant improvements to detector calibrations.
- WAN performance and connectivity: an irreducible problem.
