Use of Java for HEP data analysis
Two major domains being investigated:
- Event display (e.g. WIRED)
- Event analysis
Appealing aspects of Java:
- Easier to learn than C++
- Powerful and safe language
- Getting faster
- Free
- Integration with the Browser
- Supported bindings to ODBMS
Components are easily made re-usable, which promotes sharing of code amongst collaborators and collaborations
Avoids licensing hassles for multi-national collaborations
However, today lacking many of the required parts identified by LHC++ (mathematical libraries, fitting, event generators, etc. etc.)
