PetaBytes of Data at “Regional Centres”
Starting in 2005, several PetaBytes of high energy physics event data will be accumulated every year by experiments at the LHC
The data will be stored as Objects in a central database at CERN. Replicas of the database will be distributed globally.
Physicists at collaborating institutes around the World will analyse the data using Object Oriented software that connects to the database.
The institutes will cluster themselves around a few Regional Centres, that provide the computing infrastructure to support the analysis tasks.
